Patrick Mata runs MATA Creatives, a creative studio that makes music videos and brand films, brand identities, websites and short-form content. He started it in 2020 building websites for local businesses, got hold of a camera not long after, and grew it into film.
He handles the first conversation on every job, the direction, and the AI side of everything that leaves the studio. Nothing gets handed to a stranger halfway through — that is the main reason MATA has stayed small on purpose.
The studio is based in Charlotte and the work goes wherever it needs to. Recent jobs have shot in Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth and Nashville.
Work he is credited on
Sports Connection — two promos for the Charlotte family entertainment centres, one for the golf simulators and one for the birthday parties. Directed, filmed and edited by Patrick, delivered landscape and vertical. They now play on a loop on the screen in the entrance.
Websites — Lottie's Cafe in Uptown Charlotte, Studio Blu in Charlotte (logo, brand kit and site), and CM Scales, an operations board an agency runs its day on.
Nightlife and restaurant content — weekly recaps, guest interviews and short-form for Yamas Greek Kitchen + Bar, and club and rooftop recaps across six venues.
Brand identity — logo, colour, type and the rules that hold them together, delivered as full brand kits.
The studio's film work
MATA's film work is directed by Cris, Patrick's collaborator and a founding partner in the studio. Cris directed “Dark Souls” for Fresco Trey, which is past a million views on YouTube, and the “WYW” visualizer for 2BYG, released by Def Jam Recordings. He also shot the studio's Dallas work — Reach Performance, Axis Methods and Mason Taff.
Patrick leads strategy, AI production and the studio's web and software side. Every call on a job gets made by one of the two of them.
